About Hi-Way 18 Outdoor Theatre
The Hi-way 18 Outdoor Theatre is a large, single screen drive-in movie theater located in Jefferson, WI. The Hi-Way 18 Outdoor Theatre was first lit back in 1953. It had closed like so many other drive-ins but fortunately it was restored and re-opened in 2000. The 18 has a capacity for over 500 cars and a nice big 90' wide screen. They are open seasonally from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They accept credit cards at both the admission booth and concession area and they also allow pets as long as they are well behaved and leashed at all times. The Hi-Way 18 also maintains a playground for children to use before the movies begin. A couple of fun facts about the Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre: First, in addition to the FM transmitter, sound is also provided in the first six rows by the original sound system/speakers. power is also provided to all the poles on the lot, to provide low-level light to assist in navigating in the dark. Second, the screen is 90' x 45' which is one of the largest (if not the largest) outdoor screens in the Midwest. And third, the Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre was the first drive-in east of the Mississippi River to go digital. Prior to the transition, a twin 35mm projector setup was used, with a (usually seamless) changeover done in the middle of the film.
