About Santa Fe Springs Drive-in
Before the Santa Ana (I-5) Highway came through these parts in 1948, all you found in this area were dairy farms and orange groves. But a parcel of 18 rural acres was purchased on which to build the La Mirada Drive-in Movie Theater. Opened in 1951, it was one of America's largest at the time with its capacity for over 1000 cars. In 1965, the La Mirada became one of the first drive-in theaters to host an ongoing swap meet (common down in California). The screen went dark in 1990 and has remained so even though the screen is still there. However, there are occasional events and an annual two night stand (the double feature in August). The swap meets are still held there on weekends. Maybe one day someone will re-light the drive-in there for good.We have no photos of Santa Fe Springs Drive-in.
