Jurassic World Rebirth Review

Jurassic World Rebirth is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Scarlett Johansson as ex-military operative Zora Bennett, Mahershala Ali as expedition leader Duncan Kincaid, and Jonathan Bailey as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis. Set in a near future where dinosaurs are confined to equatorial no-travel zones, the film follows a pharmaceutical-backed mission to retrieve DNA samples from giant prehistoric animals on the abandoned Île Saint-Hubert. Johansson’s Zora leads the dangerous expedition alongside Ali’s charismatic Kincaid and Bailey’s earnest Dr. Loomis, all while Rupert Friend’s Martin Krebs schemes to exploit the mission for corporate gain.

I really enjoyed the main cast of characters—Johansson makes for a tough but layered lead, Ali is reliably magnetic, and Bailey brings genuine heart. Their dynamic and the mission’s tense encounters with the Mosasaurus, Titanosaurus, and Quetzalcoatlus provide some of the film’s best moments.

But the subplot about Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s Reuben Delgado, his daughters Teresa (Luna Blaise) and Isabella (Audrina Miranda), and Teresa’s obnoxious boyfriend Xavier (David Iacono) consistently distracted from the main story. It felt like padding that dragged the pace and could have been cut entirely. Instead of deepening the survival tension, these scenes often felt like a separate, less compelling family drama grafted onto the dinosaur thriller.

Overall, the movie also struggles with pacing problems—too much time spent on exposition, with rushed resolutions once the action heats up. And while there are some impressive sequences, it doesn’t quite match the raw spectacle of the original Jurassic Park or even the first Jurassic World.

Nevertheless, I’d still rank it ahead of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World Dominion, and Jurassic Park III. For fans of the franchise, it’s a return to form after the last two disappointments and worth seeing at a drive-in near you.
