The End of Oak Street is directed by David Robert Mitchell and stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a married couple struggling to hold their family together. The premise offers a combination of domestic drama, science fiction, and survival thriller. Mitchell stages suspenseful encounters, particularly when the family ventures beyond its boarded-up home. The visual effects give the dinosaurs enough weight and menace to make their attacks convincing. However, the film never fully combines its emotional and genre elements. The marital conflict feels secondary once the action begins, and the supporting characters are introduced more as potential victims than memorable neighbors.
Hathaway gives the story a strong emotional center as Denise, an aspiring novelist contemplating divorce before the disaster forces her to reassess her family. McGregor is equally effective as Greg, balancing insecurity, regret, and courage without making his redemptive arc feel sentimental. Their chemistry sells both the strain in the marriage and the affection underneath it.
The final stretch delivers excitement, but its time-travel logic becomes muddled, and the revelation involving two identical Jeannettes raises issues the screenplay makes little effort to explain. The End of Oak Street never lives up to the promise of its premise, but is an enjoyable watch due to the performances of Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, despite a confusing ending that leaves viewers with more questions than answers.
