About Route 66 Drive-in
The Route 66 Drive-in is a twin screen drive-in movie theater located in Springfield, Illinois. Originally called the Green Meadows Drive-in Theater when it first opened in 1978, this twin drive-in in central Illinois did not last long and was only open for 4 years before closing in 1982. It then remained dark for 20 years by the time the Knight family acquired it and restored it to the community's delight. Renamed the Route 66 Drive-in at re-opening. It was re-opened in 2002 with a special screening of Grease and Hollywood Knights. They use FM broadcasting now instead of the traditional window speakers. They are open seasonally showing double features 7 nights a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day and then showing movies on weekends only until they close for the season. Currently admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
