Top Ten Films of the 2020s so far

by Released : 2023-09-13

  1. Oppenheimer (2023) - The best film of the decade so far with fantastic direction from Christopher Nolan, and excellent performances from an ensemble cast. Oscar worthy performance from Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer.

  2. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) - The second Spider-Man film on this list surpasses Into the Spider-Verse due to the sheer nostalgia of having three Spider-Mans on screen together.

  3. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2023) - From start to finish this film is fantastic. It hits the ground running with the best animation ever seen in American film. The film despite being PG has real emotional stakes and a gray area on what's good and bad in the world of the Spider-Men.

  4. Top Gun: Maverick (2022) - The sequel no one asked for but everyone needed, Top Gun Maverick was originally set to release in 2019, it stars Tom Cruise reprising his role as Maverick from the 1986 Top Gun and has some of the best flight scenes seen in any film. Far surpasses the original film with an ensemble cast that includes standouts Miles Teller, Jennifer Connely and Glen Powell.

  5. The Fabelmans (2022)- The second Spielberg film to appear on this list, this film serves as a biopic about Spielberg's early life. Much of the story is true and like West Side Story is anchored by fantastic direction and performances.

  6. The Batman (2022) - Reintroduced audiences to a darker, grittier Gotham than the ones previously seen in Nolan and Affleck's films. Robert Pattison was an excellent Batman albeit underdeveloped Bruce Wayne. Paul Dano was excellent as the Riddler.

  7. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)- A fantastic MCU movie with brisk action, timely comedy, and one of the franchises most compelling villains.

  8. Pig (2021)- Likely the least known film on this list, Pig follows Nicholas Cage as a former chef living in the woods and making a living selling truffles. When his prized truffle pig is stolen he must go on a journey with his client Amir (Alex Wolf) to find it. At 92 minutes I highly recommend you check it out.

  9. West Side Story (2021)- Directed by Steven Spielberg with fantastic set designs, performances, a timeless story that manages to surpass the 1961 original.

  10.  Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)- A sequel to the 2009 Avatar, over a decade in the making and the visuals don’t disappoint. In fact the special effects and performances are so good it makes up for its formulaic yet emotional story.
